A classic chemistry prank, spoons made of the element Gallium will melt in a warm beverage.  With a melting point of only 29.76 °C or 85.58 °F, Gallium will slowly melt if placed in the palm of one’s hand, although the process is far faster in hot cup of coffee or tea.  Here’s the gag in action:

week one of my scholarship is over! I had a good time, we’ve almost worked out the mobile phase of the HPLC, and worked out our standards, and the unknown aint playing up as much, as they were. this should set up our gradient for all future novel compounds based on the original compound to determine the log P of the compounds.

day one completed

yay science! i got my keys to my office and lab, (sharing both, no problems there)! so fucking happy about the fact i’m starting to actually feel like i’m doing my own research and such, and have some more control over what i’m doing in a career sense now :)

just in case you want to know, i’m making inhibitors for Motor Neuron disease, i can’t explaining it more than that, :(

(this is due to copyright and intellectual property laws)

i just need to work out how much stuff i can do, regarding this scholarship, due to this work, being almost the same as my honours work, and i cannot use this work for my honours work, so i need to change some things :)

i start my first week of my scholarship tomorrow, wish me luck. it should be fun and such

so i got into my honours program

no big deal or anything, just cruising towards the possibility of doing a Ph.D
